In a recent meeting held in Geneva to discuss the future of the internet, the differences between the US and those opposing it were sharp and stark. The EU issued a warning that “the internet will fall apart” if the US insists on retaining monopoly control. The delegation sent by Brazil issued a statement that attacked the US monopoly “On internet governance, three words tend to come to mind: lack of legitimacy. In our digital world, one nation decides for all of us.” The delegation sent by Iran claimed that the “US can use its control over the internet as a policy instrument to deny the benefits of internet usage to countries like Iran.” Read More...
